The East Gambier Street Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in November of 1976 by Harold C. Johnson.
East Gambier Street Historic District is the smallest of the three residential districts located near downtown Mount Vernon. East Gambier Street boasts several examples of Greek Revival and Italianate architecture. Most of the homes along this street date between 1835 and 1860. Members of the Curtis and Cooper families, U.S. Senator Jesse B. Thomas, and Irish-born newspaper publisher Lecky Harper were among the many local celebrities to call East Gambier Street home.
