|Address:||223 Ward Street|
|Year Built:||c. 1880|
|Original Owner:||Charles R. Stanton|
Charles R. Stanton was a Gambier painter who likely built this house sometime between 1880 and 1895. It is a large 2-story Italianate home with a hip roof and central chimney. Cornic brackets are missing from the overhanging roof, but the tall window frames featured in Italianate architecture are still present. The roof retains its original slate shingles. The modern windows have single panes of glass in each sash. Historically the windows would have for panes in each sash. A single-story addition on the north facade of the house was likely done in the early-20th century, and also features slate shingles on a gable roof. A wide enclosed porch projects from the main facade, and is not original to the home.
