The 1910 tax maps list this property as owned by Sarah J. Fearns.  Both earlier and later maps list the name as Ferns or Feras, but Fearns appears to be the most common spelling.  It is not known who exactly Sarah J. Fearns was, but is listed by the House of Representatives as the Gambier postmaster for the fiscal year 1871-1872, in which she earned $122.50.  The following year (1873-1874) she earned $187.70 for her service as postmaster.  Fearns owned this property at least from 1871 to 1910, if not longer.  She continued to serve Gambier as "a most acceptable" postmaster at least into the early-1880s.

This two-story cross gabled residence with a central chimney in each ell.  The porch is most likely original to this house, although it has been updated with a concrete foundation and newer columns.
